Trans* Latinas in Hollywood - Yesterday and Today

  • Holly Woodlawn (on the left)

Born October 26, 1946, Holly Woodlawn is a Puerto Rican transgender actress and former Warhol superstar, who appeared in his movies Trash (1970) and Women in Revolt (1972).  In 1970 she received word from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that George Cukor, supported by others, was petitioning the Academy to nominate her for best actress for her work in Trash, however, nothing came of this campaign. Woodlawn continued her acting career throughout the 70’s, but finally moved back to Miami when further acting opportunities halted. In the early 2000s Woodlawn returned to show business,  performing in sold-out cabaret shows in New York and Los Angeles . She continues to travel with her cabaret show, most recently appearing in Kraków and London in 2008. Holly currently resides in West Hollywood. [x]

My boyfriend broke up with me and my 80 year old, 5 foot tall, Indian grandmother told me that “there are lots of men…”

I thought she was then going to say “…in the sea” but she said “…they’re like flies” and made a disgusted face.

She hates flies.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 2x09 - “Cased Up” (November 11, 1991)

I just watched this yesterday, coincidentally. The studio audience laughed a lot at that part. Doesn’t seem so absurd anymore.

I read the article and this honestly makes me so fucking angry. I encourage all my followers to reblog the shit out of this. Share it on your Facebook and Twitter, too.

This makes me physically ill. It’s torture. America fucking preaches to the rest of the world, and it can’t even uphold basic human rights.
